Over a Decade of Industry Experience
Switchboard & Meter Box Upgrades,
Done Properly
We do switchboard upgrades properly. Every job starts with a full inspection of the existing board, earthing system, and supply. We isolate the supply safely, remove the old equipment, and install a new enclosure with RCBO protection on every circuit, as required by AS/NZS3000. Where the earthing needs work, we install a new main earth rod. We label every circuit, test the installation against the wiring rules, and issue an electrical safety certificate before we leave. One licensed team, end to end.
Every switchboard upgrade includes a complimentary electrical safety audit valued at $240. We check the rest of the home's wiring, RCD performance, and connected loads while we're on site, so you walk away with a clear picture of what's safe and what isn't.
What We Cover
Switchboard Replacement and Upgrade
Consumer Mains Upgrade
Single Phase to Three Phase Upgrade
Sub-Switchboard Installation
RCBO Circuit Protection
Working Isn't Safe
An old board that still turns the lights on might not trip fast enough to stop a shock. Ceramic fuses, no RCDs, half the circuits unprotected. Modern loads make it worse. RCBO protection on every circuit is the current standard.
Sized for What's Next
Most callbacks we get were boards sized too tight. EV charger added later. Ducted AC. Sub-board for the shed. We leave room for the loads you’ll add over the next few years. Cheaper than swapping the board twice.
Tested and Certified
Licensed electrical contractors handling the full job in-house. We test insulation resistance, earth continuity, and RCD trip times before handover. Electrical safety certificate in your hand before we leave. No subcontractors.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a switchboard upgrade cost in Perth?
There’s no standard price because there’s no standard job. Cost depends on whether your supply is single or three phase, the condition of your existing cabling, the size and layout of the new board, and whether any consumer mains or earthing work is required. We provide free quotes so you know the full cost upfront.
How long does a switchboard upgrade take and how long will my power be off?
A standard upgrade takes one day. Your power will be off for several hours during the swap, not the entire day. We tell you when the supply goes off and when it comes back on so you can plan around it.
My switchboard still works. Do I actually need to upgrade it?
Working isn’t the same as safe. Older boards often don’t trip fast enough to prevent electric shock, don’t isolate faults to individual circuits, and weren’t built for the loads modern homes carry. Signs you should book an inspection: ceramic fuses, a board that trips frequently, mixed-era switches, or no RCD protection on power and lighting circuits.
What's the difference between a circuit breaker, an RCD, and an RCBO?
A circuit breaker protects the wiring from overload and short circuits but doesn’t protect people from electric shock. An RCD protects people from electric shock but doesn’t handle overload. An RCBO combines both in a single device, on every circuit. RCBO protection on every circuit is the current standard under AS/NZS3000 and what we install on every upgrade.
Do I need a licensed electrician for a switchboard upgrade?
Yes. Switchboard work in Western Australia must be carried out by an electrician holding a current Electrical Contractor Licence. Unlicensed work voids your insurance, breaches the regulations, and is genuinely dangerous given the supply voltages involved. Every Leo Electrical technician holds the required licensing.
